Questions You Need to Ask: Company Culture

Updated: Oct 7, 2021

Company culture is not just a trending topic but an important thing to keep in mind when deciding if you should (or shouldn’t) work for a particular company. It’s more than free pizza lunches, Happy Hour meetups or arcade games in the break room. A good company culture can mean satisfied and happy employees, which translates into less turn over for the team.

In a post-COVID world, companies are feeling the effects of the “great resignation”. Now, more than ever, people are looking for something different...something better. And I don’t blame them!

So, the BIG question is how do you determine if a company’s culture is the right fit for you?

Here are some questions you should consider asking:

How does the company celebrate success? How do they handle failure?

What does work/life balance look like and is it something they encourage?

Do the company values translate into the kinds of employees they hire? How are these values lived out practically as a company?

How do the managers support and motivate the team?

How does the company aid in professional development?

Are there opportunities to express ideas or have concerns addressed?

What are you looking for in an ideal team member?

This is not an exhaustive list by any means, but they give you an idea of what kinds of things you should be asking before making a decision.

Are there questions you think should be added to this list? What kinds of things are you looking for in a company culture? We’d love to hear!
